235 Islands in The Territory of Hong Kong
The three main islands (of 235 in the territory of Hong Kong) Lantau, Lamma and Cheung Chau, are favorites with urban dwellers trying to get away for a public holiday or weekend.
Lantau: Twice the size of Hong Kong island with a population of only 30,000. Places of interest include excellent beaches, the Po Lin Monastery with its 34-meter high statue of Buddha; Lantau Tea Garden with its BBQs and Horse-Riding: Trappist Monastery; Tai O Fishing Village Eastern Vienna; the modern Hong Kong International Airport.
Lamma : The ferries go to Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan, famous for its string of outdoor Chinese seafood restaurants. There are also beaches and walking trails in the island.
Cheung Chau : The most populated of the islands and most popular. Overbuilding and overpopulation has put paid to romantic images. Temples, beaches, restaurants, the Cave are good place to visit. Lee Lai Shan the Windsurfing Champion is living in this island.
